Accessibility Statement
1. Our commitment
LIIMRA is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards across our website, research deliverables, and engagement materials.
2. Conformance standards
This site is designed to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We also reference the requirements set out in:
- The Accessible Canada Act, S.C. 2019, c. 10, and its regulations.
- The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) for engagements that involve Ontario-regulated entities.
- Section 508 standards for federally regulated US partners, where applicable.
3. Accessibility measures we take
- Visible keyboard focus indicators on every interactive element.
- Skip-to-main-content link as the first interactive element on every page.
- Semantic HTML landmarks (
header, nav, main, footer) and a single H1 per page. - ARIA labels on icon-only buttons and current-page indication in navigation.
- Colour contrast of 4.5:1 minimum for body text and 3:1 for large display text.
- Touch targets sized to at least 44×44 CSS pixels on small screens.
- Respect for the user's
prefers-reduced-motionsystem preference (autoplay video, parallax, and decorative motion are suppressed when set). - Responsive design tested down to 320 CSS pixels wide without horizontal scroll.
- Plain-language content guidelines applied to body copy.
4. Known limitations
Despite our efforts, some areas may not be fully accessible at present:
- Video posters in the hero — decorative; equivalent text content appears immediately below.
- Hosted third-party content (e.g., embedded analytics dashboards in case studies) may not meet our standard. We work with vendors to remediate where possible.
If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please tell us — see Feedback below.
5. Compatibility with assistive technology
The site is designed to be compatible with current versions of major screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack) on supported browsers (current and previous major versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari). If you use an older or specialised assistive technology and encounter compatibility issues, please let us know.
6. Assessment approach
Accessibility is reviewed through a combination of:
- Automated testing using axe and Lighthouse on each major release.
- Manual keyboard-only navigation testing for primary user journeys.
- Screen-reader walkthroughs for nav, forms, and critical content.
- Periodic external review.
7. Feedback and reporting a barrier
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of this site. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please contact us with the following information:
- The page URL where the barrier occurred.
- A short description of the barrier.
- The device, operating system, browser, and assistive technology you used (if applicable).
